The Opportunity With exciting projects on the horizon, we are looking for a Senior Protection Engineer to join our dynamic Secondary Systems Engineering team within the Delivery Division.
In this full-time position based in Adelaide, South Australia, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of protection system design work across a broad range of projects including connections of generators (renewables and conventional), battery energy storage systems, major loads as well as replacement of existing infrastructure to ensure the network remains reliable.
In this role, you will also be responsible for:
  • Preparing preliminary or detailed design, options analysis/ risk assessments, scope and specifications of Protection Systems.
  • Performing engineering design reviews, compliance and validation including commissioning witnessing of Protection Systems.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of Protection System standards including equipment evaluation.
  • Planning and prioritising your workload, working across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Supporting the co-ordination of engineering project deliverables with stakeholders


To be successful in this role, you will require sound technical skills, underpinned by strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills to clearly articulate your ideas and engage with peers for collaboration.

About You Here’s what we’re looking for in our new team member:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline is essential, with approximately 7-12 years of relevant protection experience within secondary systems.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of secondary systems circuitry design and HV power system protection schemes and principles are essential.
  • Experience in protection system construction and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of DNP3 and IEC 61850 substation network communication standards.
  • Knowledge of legislated industry requirements (National Electricity Rules, ESCOSA, AEMO Guidelines, Safety in Design etc.).
  • Ability to produce protection device (IED) settings and configuration files.
  • Knowledge of Substation Automation System and Substation Infrastructure Engineering.
  • Problem-solving prowess and a knack for finding practical solutions.
  • Team player with a flexible and collaborative attitude.
