Mechanical Engineer – Hydraulics & Robotics (Aerial Systems)
Ag-Nav Inc.LocationRemote – Open to international candidatesAbout the RoleAg-Nav Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in hydraulics and robotic/mechatronic systems to support the development of next-generation aerial application and navigation equipment.You will play a key role in designing and developing mechanical and electro-mechanical systems used in mission-critical aerial operations including:
  • Agricultural aerial application
  • Forest protection
  • Aerial firefighting
  • Geophysical survey
  • Pipeline inspection
  • Power line inspection
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Aerial mapping and survey

This role involves working on hydraulic control systems, actuators, flow control mechanisms, and integrated robotic systems that operate in demanding aviation environments. Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical and hydraulic systems for aerial equipment
  • Develop and integrate actuators, valves, pumps, and flow control systems
  • Support design of robotic and mechatronic subsystems
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and production drawings
  • Perform mechanical calculations and simulations (stress, flow, thermal where applicable)
  • Work closely with electrical and software teams for system integration
  • Prototype, test, and validate mechanical systems under real-world conditions
  • Support field testing and troubleshooting of installed systems
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability, reliability, and weight
  • Contribute to design documentation, BOMs, and production processes

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design (hydraulics and/or robotics preferred)
  • Strong experience with hydraulic systems:
  • proportional valves
  • pumps
  • flow control
  • pressure systems
  • Experience with actuators and motion systems
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles
  • Experience creating manufacturing drawings and BOMs
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Strong English communication skills

Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with electro-hydraulic systems
  • Experience with robotics or automation systems
  • Familiarity with control systems (PID, feedback loops)
  • Experience with embedded systems integration
  • Knowledge of aerospace or aviation systems
  • Experience with CFD or FEA tools
  • Familiarity with DO-160 or ruggedized equipment design
  • Experience with corrosion protection and environmental sealing (IP-rated designs)
