This is a senior engineering role where you'll directly influence the safety, reliability, and performance of a Canterbury-based electricity distribution network. The Role Reporting to the Engineering & Design Manager, you'll take a lead role in designing and developing protection, automation, and communications systems for substations and distribution assets, both for new builds and brownfield upgrades.
Responsibilities include: - Undertaking network studies, event/fault analysis, and integrating new technologies
- Acting as Project Engineer on key initiatives
- Developing and maintaining technical specifications, drawings, and standards
- Supporting commissioning activities and providing specialist engineering support across the business
- Identifying opportunities for improved safety, asset performance, and operational efficiency
Ideal Experience You'll bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5+ years' experience in protection systems design and analysis for distribution or transmission networks
- Familiarity with network modelling tools such as PowerFactory or PSS SINCAL
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
The following experience will be advantageous:
- Network communications technologies (IEC 61850, DNP3)
- Automation systems in electricity networks
- Protection systems commissioning
- CAD skills
