, the Financial Assistant provides support by performing financial, human resources, and administrative functions of the unit. This position will provide support for human resources, financial, procurement, and other administrative duties. This position will maintain proper files for record retention, answer phones, greet unit/department guests, assist students and faculty, assist with department events. This position will also assist department hiring manager with faculty, staff, and student hires as well as provide support for onboarding of foreign nationals such as new and renewal of H-1B and J-1 visas, reviewing work permission reports, and proactively collaborating with constituents to keep documents updated.
Required Education and Experience:- A high school diploma or GED with one year of experience in accounting and/or an HR role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on the needs of others and with time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office (Adept in Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to learn and utilize innovative technology
Preferred Education and Experience: - Associate’s degree in a field related to business, HR Management, or a degree related to the position’s duties.
- Licenses or certifications related to accounting, business, or HR.
- Experience in an academic environment.
- Experience hiring foreign nationals and communicating with non-native English speakers.
- Experience in procurement/purchasing
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
- Knowledge of financial / personnel management applications such as ORACLE/Huron.
- Knowledge of personnel maintenance processes incl. hiring, I-9 e-verification, and USCIS (visa) processes.
