Ophthalmologist – Glaucoma & Anterior Segment SurgeonLocation: Caribbean Island | Full-Time | On-SiteInstitution: Leading Private Multispecialty Eye Care CenterPosition OverviewA leading private healthcare institution in the Caribbean is seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in Glaucoma, capable of independently managing advanced glaucoma, complex cataract surgery, and comprehensive anterior segment care.This role is designed for a technically strong glaucoma surgeon who can serve as the clinical anchor for glaucoma services, while also contributing to high-volume cataract surgery and general ophthalmology, ensuring continuity of care across the full disease spectrum.The successful candidate will play a key role in service development, surgical excellence, technology adoption, and clinical governance, within a modern ophthalmic setup equipped with advanced diagnostics and operating infrastructure.Core Clinical ResponsibilitiesGlaucoma ServicesDiagnose, stage, and manage all forms of glaucoma, including:• Primary open-angle and angle-closure glaucoma• Secondary glaucoma (neovascular, traumatic, uveitic)• Advanced and end-stage disease, including one-eyed patientsPerform and interpret advanced glaucoma diagnostics:• OCT (RNFL & macular analysis), visual fields• Gonioscopy, AS-OCT, UBM, OCT-A (where available)Deliver comprehensive glaucoma treatment, including:• Medical management and long-term monitoring• Laser procedures (YAG PI, SLT, argon laser suturolysis)Surgical glaucoma interventions:• Trabeculectomy• Glaucoma Drainage Devices (Ahmed, AADI or equivalent)• Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), including goniotomy-based techniquesCataract & Anterior Segment SurgeryIndependently perform phacoemulsification across routine and complex cases, including:• Dense, mature, and intumescent cataracts• Miotic pupils, weak zonules, post-vitrectomy eyes• Premium IOL implantation (toric, aspheric, enhanced monofocal)Perform combined procedures, including:• Phaco-trabeculectomy• Phaco + MIGS• Phaco + GDD implantationManage intraoperative and postoperative complications, including:• Anterior vitrectomy• Sulcus fixation and secondary IOL implantationGeneral Ophthalmology• Provide outpatient and inpatient comprehensive ophthalmic care• Manage ocular emergencies and anterior segment pathology• Ensure continuity of care across glaucoma, cataract, and general ophthalmology patientsAcademic, Operational & Leadership Responsibilities• Contribute to clinical audits, outcomes tracking, and quality improvement initiatives• Participate in technology selection, equipment optimization, and OT workflow design• Support training and mentoring of junior doctors, optometrists, and nursing staff• Engage in clinical research, case presentations, and CME activities• Maintain meticulous medical records aligned with international best practicesRequired QualificationsMBBS with MS / MD / DNB in OphthalmologyFormal fellowship training in GlaucomaDemonstrated expertise in:• Surgical glaucoma (trabeculectomy, GDDs, MIGS)• High-precision phacoemulsification and complex cataractsEligibility for medical licensure in the CaribbeanStrong grounding in evidence-based ophthalmic practiceDesired Technical & Professional CompetenciesAdvanced surgical judgment and decision-making in high-risk glaucomaAbility to balance subspecialty glaucoma care with high-volume cataract servicesStrong patient counseling and longitudinal disease management skillsCollaborative mindset within a multidisciplinary ophthalmology teamInterest in building and leading glaucoma services within a growing institutionCompensation & Benefits• Competitive, tax-efficient salary in USD• Comprehensive health insurance• Relocation assistance and visa sponsorship• Access to modern diagnostic platforms and surgical technology• CME support and long-term professional growth• Excellent work-life balance in a high-quality Caribbean settingStrategic Fit (Why This Role Works)This position is ideal for a technically confident glaucoma specialist who:• Enjoys surgical depth rather than narrow subspecialisation• Wants autonomy in clinical decision-making• Is comfortable combining advanced glaucoma surgery with cataract volume• Seeks international exposure without compromising clinical complexityApplication InstructionsEmbark on a fulfilling medical career in the Caribbean.
