You will work closely with the child within their own home as a 2:1 staffing team 24/7.The young person sustained a serious brain injury in early infancy, resulting in a range of long-term conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Cystic Fibrosis, visual impairment, reflux, poor swallow, and communication difficulties. They are unable to recognise risk or danger and rely entirely on their family and care team to meet all aspects of their daily living and healthcare needs. The young person can sit unaided but is unable to stand or walk without support. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the young person’s health, comfort, and quality of life. You will assist with all aspects of personal care including washing, dressing, changing, and positioning, while maintaining dignity and comfort at all times. You will also be responsible for monitoring the young person closely for signs of pain, illness, or distress and reporting concerns promptly. The young person receives all nutrition, hydration, and medication via a gastrostomy, so confidence or willingness to be trained in gastrostomy care is essential. Support Workers will follow clear protocols and training to safely administer feeds and medications, including giving analgesia only when required.Due to the young person’s Cystic Fibrosis and complex respiratory needs, you will support with chest physiotherapy, use suction equipment when necessary, and remain vigilant for signs of chest infection or aspiration. You will work in close collaboration with the young person’s family, therapists, and wider multidisciplinary team to ensure their health needs are met consistently. The role also involves supporting the young person with moving and handling, transfers, and positioning using specialist equipment such as hoists, wheelchairs, standing frames, sleep systems, and bathing equipment. Full training will be provided, and you will be expected to follow guidance from the physiotherapist and occupational therapist to ensure safe practice for both the young person and staff. In addition to meeting medical and physical needs, Support Workers are expected to provide appropriate stimulation, interaction, and play, helping the young person engage with their environment and supporting therapy programmes designed to promote comfort, development, and enjoyment. This role would suit someone who is patient, reliable, attentive, and committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Experience with complex care is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided. What matters most is a caring attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work as part of a close, supportive team. You need to be flexible enough to work waking nights to begin with but also be able to work variable shifts if this changes on a reasonable rota system.Training for PEG feeding will be provided by a nurse.Duties
