About the Role

The Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, Health New Zealand, Counties Manukau District is delighted to invite applications for our Fellowship roles commencing January 2026. As a prominent ANZCA-accredited teaching hospital in metropolitan Auckland, and one of the busiest acute surgical centres in Australasia, we are well-placed to offer unparalleled opportunities for your growth and learning.

About the Team/Service/ Location

With 24 theatres across 2 sites, we are a regional tertiary referral centre for acute spine, pelvic trauma, mangled limb and reconstructive surgery, and are home to the National Burns Centre, delivering world-class burns trauma care to New Zealand, the Pacific and Tahiti. Additionally, we provide support to a bustling Obstetric Unit with over 7000 deliveries per annum, many of which are complex. We are seeking motivated and energetic individuals for pre-approved ANZCA training positions (12 months, fixed-term) :
  • Anaesthesia, with an interest in BURNS

  • Anaesthesia, with an interest in OBSTETRICS

  • Anaesthesia, with an interest in PERIOPERATIVE MEDICINE

  • Anaesthesia, with an interest in REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA

  • Anaesthesia, with general experience across our surgical specialties (several roles available).

We are additionally recruiting to flexible 6-12 month fixed-term ANZCA training positions
commencing in July of this year , 2025.

About you

The ideal candidate will be

1. Eligible to enter provisional fellow year (PFY) or first year post FANZCA (ANZCA)

2. ST6/ST7 or post CCT (UK), or equivalent. We welcome international applicants with equivalency of experience, provided eligibility criteria for registration with the Medical Council New Zealand can be met.

Pain Fellows:

Want a new challenge and the opportunity to work closely with an experienced and supportive multidisciplinary team?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Pain Fellow to join our pain teams.

This is a fixed-term 12 month position for the year January 2026 – January 2027. We are an accredited level 1 training site for the Faculty of Pain Medicine of ANZCA, and preference will be given to current trainees of the Faculty of Pain Medicine or those intending to embark on training.

The successful applicant will become a member of our outpatient chronic, and inpatient acute and complex, multidisciplinary pain teams. They will work across Middlemore Hospital, the Manukau Super Clinic, and other outlying pain clinics. Middlemore Hospital is a busy acute tertiary hospital that amongst multiple specialities is home to the National Burns Service, a regional spinal cord injury service, and Kidz First Children’s Hospital.
