The Berlin Metropolitan School (BMS), an international and nationally accredited K-12 school in central Berlin, Germany, seeks an experienced and dynamic educational leader to serve as Secondary School Principal,
starting August 1, 2026. The Principal will provide strategic direction for the Secondary School, support and develop its faculty, oversee daily operations, and ensure a consistent and structured transition from Primary to Secondary School. The Principal will work in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement schoolwide strategic priorities that further the school’s mission and ensure the successful development.
Our Secondary School Program is based on national and international curriculum structures, guided by both the international methods and standards, as well as by the content and learning objectives of the national curriculum. BMS is a state-recognized IB World School and is fully accredited by CIS/NEASC. We serve a Secondary School student population of over 500 students and have an international team of 60 dedicated faculty and staff members in our Secondary School.
YOUR ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES ARE TO - Create a school culture which actively and meaningfully promotes the BMS Guiding Statements and the IB Learner Profile.
- Support the Executive Director and Head of School in developing and communicating a clear strategic vision of how to develop BMS successfully.
- Motivate and empower the Secondary School Team to implement the strategic vision of the school.
- Lead the development and evaluation of curriculum, assessment and reporting processes.
- Ensure procedures are in place for assessing student performance accurately, fairly and regularly.
- Support teachers in developing their professional knowledge and skills.
- Ensure the physical, educational and social emotional needs of students and staff are met at all times.
- Lead the recruitment, appraisal and professional development of the teaching team.
- Ensure there are clear and effective lines of communication, both internally and with the wider school community.
- Oversee and manage the Secondary School budget in collaboration with the Business Director and Head of School.
- Liaise with the Berlin Senate on staffing regulations and local curriculum requirements.
- Lead all re-accreditations processes for Secondary School (IB, CIS, NEASC) and ensure the successful completion of each re-accreditation cycle.

- Holding degree(s) in Education with qualifications in Educational Leadership.
- Proficient in written and oral English and, ideally, have a working knowledge of spoken and written German.
- A well experienced Principal, with at least 3 years of experience, ideally in an IB School.
