Japanese-Speaking Graduate Accountant - Expatriate Tax

This is a large, full service accounting firm providing a broad range of audit, tax and advisory services. Melbourne office is currently seeking a Graduate Consultant to join their Japan Practice team, supporting Japanese corporate clients. If you are interested in Japanese expatriate individual income tax and employment tax matters, and expect to graduate between March and July 2026, we would love to hear from you. About the Role We are looking for a motivated Graduate Consultant with Japanese language capability who is eager to learn and contribute across all aspects of their team's work. This role focuses on supporting Japanese multinational companies and their expatriate employee populations. The team assists a portfolio of large Japanese clients by providing tax compliance services as well as broader consulting on expatriate tax matters. Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare expatriate personal income tax returns, Fringe Benefits Tax returns, Payroll Tax returns, and other tax compliance work as part of a collaborative team
  • Support Australian Employee Share Plan advisory and compliance activities for crossborder Japanese assignees
  • Assist with delivering expatriate tax briefings in Japanese and supporting expatriate program management
  • Help prepare tax technical papers, client communications, and support national Japan Practice events such as seminars/webinars
  • Assist in managing client and stakeholder relationships
  • Provide day to day support to Managers and Senior Managers across workflow and project management
  • Contribute to the delivery of technical training for both the team and clients

What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Native level Japanese language skills with business level English
  • Working toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, with expected completion by mid2026
  • Strong understanding of Japanese business culture and communication norms
  • 1-2 years of corporate work experience in Japan (ideal but not essential)
  • Commitment to high quality client service
  • Strong writing, analytical, and research skills, with willingness to further develop these
