Responsibilities • Lead backend application design and development using Java and Spring Boot• Architect and build scalable, secure, and high-performance distributed systems• Design and implement event-driven and data-processing systems using Kafka• Build and manage ETL pipelines handling large-scale healthcare data• Develop cloud-native applications on AWS using Docker and Kubernetes• Own system design, performance optimization, and production readiness• Create reusable services, APIs, and platform components aligned with business needs• Collaborate closely with product, data, and platform teams• Mentor engineers and lead by example through code quality and best practices• Manage the full software development lifecycle from design to deployment• Perform code reviews, testing, debugging, and production issue resolution• Drive engineering standards, documentation, and architectural consistency Desired Profile • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline• 5 to 10 years of hands-on backend engineering experience• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture• Strong expertise in Python• Solid experience with Kafka or other distributed messaging systems• Strong understanding of system design, large-scale architecture, and data modeling• Experience with AWS cloud services• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes• Strong SQL knowledge and experience with data-intensive systems• Prior experience building ETL pipelines is required• Exposure to React or frontend technologies is a plus• Experience working in a strong product company• Graduates from Tier-1 institutes, IIT, NIT, BITS preferred• US Master’s degree is a strong plus• 2023, 2024, or 2025 pass-outs are welcome if experience is strong• Experience using Git, CI CD pipelines, Agile development practices• Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills• Ability to lead by example in design, coding, and problem solving Location and Work Model • Onsite role based in Bethesda, Maryland• Open to candidates from DC, Maryland, Baltimore, Virginia, or anywhere in the US• Candidates must be open to relocation to Bethesda• H1B sponsorship available for eligible candidates The HiLabs Story HiLabs was born in the halls of Yale University when a cardiologist and an AI expert teamed up to tackle data quality challenges in the US healthcare system.
