This position is a full-time position commencing 1 February 2027 for the period of 12 months with possible extension. Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary and community‐based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding regions. More information can be found on the CHS website. North Canberra Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit is a tertiary level, mixed adult Intensive Care admitting over 600 patients a year. The ICU is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for foundation training (application submitted for C6). Our intensive care trainees are exposed to a broad case mix of critically ill patients. There are 10 physical bed spaces currently with a plan to construct a new hospital in the next five years. This position is a Transitional Year position in North Canberra’s ICU. It plays a key role in the delivery of medical care to critically ill patients. The position is a transitional role between that of a registrar and consultant, with flexibility and graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy, and development of skills in research, education and administration. A suitable applicant will have met the CICM criteria to enter Transitional Year by February 2027. We offer a structured teaching program tailored for the needs of the individual advanced trainee while providing support from Staff Specialists experienced in the practice of Intensive Care Medicine. It is expected that all appointees will be registered with the CICM and will have complete the CICM Part 2 examination and all other rotational requirements necessary to be eligible for the Transition Year including submission for formal project.
