About the role AIS?Marine?Pty?Ltd continues to expand its specialist marine and ship repair, maintenance and inspection services across Australian ports. We are seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer (Marine Engineering) to provide senior technical leadership on MAN?B&W electronically controlled ME series propulsion systems and broader marine engineering projects. This position is Sydney based but may require travel nation-wide and occasional international travel. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key responsibilities • Lead troubleshooting, overhaul and performance optimization of large 2-stroke electronic engines on board vessels alongside berth or at inner/outer anchorages, including remote diagnostics and voyage repairs. • Main Propulsion Engine main bearing, cross head bearing and con rod bearing renewal and inspection for condition monitoring. • Diesel generator overhauling, including crankpin and main bearing renewal. • Deck machinery and deck cranes troubleshooting, repair and maintenance. • Understand the codes and requirements of various welding procedures. • Act as Chief Technical Authority for the projects within AIS?Marine, issuing technical directives and engineering standards. • Conduct on-site condition assessments and failure investigations; recommend corrective measures and preventive maintenance strategies. • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OEM bulletins, alternative fuel retrofits (ME GI / ME LGI) and emerging hybrid propulsion technologies. • Estimate, manage and lead repair and retrofit projects from initiation to close out, ensuring delivery on schedule, on budget and to agreed HSEQ standards. • Prepare and submit detailed repair plans, method statements and risk assessments for client and Classification Society approval; track comments to closure and maintain document control. • Coordinate and communicate with all interested parties – owners/clients, local agents, sub contractors, Classification and Flag State surveyors, port & terminal authorities – securing permits, approvals and seamless execution in accordance with professional and legal standards. • Analysing project scope, budgeting, cost estimation and resource allocation. • Compile, review and issue comprehensive final service/technical reports with full traceability of materials, test records and certification. • Represent owners/operators in Class, Flag and PSC surveys; compile objective evidence, close out corrective actions and drive continual improvement. • Prepare the procedures and management documents, perform internal technical audits (as per ISO?9001, ISO?14001, ISO?45001 standards) and support external ISM/ISPS/MLC audits. • Prepare training materials and mentor junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices; deliver toolbox talks and OEM-aligned training modules. • Provide expert input to tenders, root cause analyses and incident investigations. • Carry out ISM audits onboard the vessels for ship managers, inspections for Owners as well as assist in Owner, flag state and class change transitions. • Assistance for various drydock repair jobs as well as coordination between the owner/manager/vessel engineer and the dock supervisor. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Essential criteria • Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering field • Minimum?02?years hands-on experience in the following: - MAN?B&W ME series engines (slow speed electronically controlled) - Experience as a Senior or Chief Engineer on ocean-going vessels with MAN?B&W ME series engines (preferably container, tanker or bulk carrier). - as an Auditor completed at least 05 ISM audits and 02 inspections for the owner. • Hands-on experience regarding the assistance of a vessel’s Flag, ownership and management change, minimum 02 vessels. • Certificate of Competency – STCW Reg.?III/2 Chief Engineer (unlimited). • In-depth knowledge of IACS Classification Rules, Flag State requirements and IMO conventions, LSA & FFE codes.
