Job summary:This is a non-grid training position in the Department of Gastroenterology and Nutrition for a period of 12
months provisionally starting from May 2026. The post is one of four registrar level responsibilities covering general gastroenterology and clinical nutrition. The post holder will not be expected to contribute to the trustwide Hospital at Night rota but will contribute to the out of hours cover for the Gastroenterology / Hepatology rota (0800‑2000, 7 days per week) which will be paid in addition to the basic salary.Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and outpatient care of gastroenterology patients on a rotational basis.
- Support nutrition for the trust, working with the Nutrition Support and Intestinal Failure Team.
- Manage referrals from within and outside the trust.
- Cover the department unit from 08:30 to 17:30 and assist colleagues as required.
- Request patient investigations with decision support.
- Participate in out‑of‑hours cover for the Gastroenterology/Hepatology rotation.
- Review the post periodically and make amendments in consultation with the post holder.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Clinical Experience- Medical Degree from a recognised university.
- Minimum of 3 years full‑time postgraduate training (or equivalent part‑time) in paediatrics.
- Full MRCPCH (or equivalent).
Desirable- Other educational qualifications such as ALS, APLS, ATLS.
- Experience in paediatric gastroenterology.
Eligibility- Full GMC registration.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
Language skills- Competent written and spoken English capable of effective communication with patients and colleagues.
