Job DescriptionThis company is building wireless energy delivery through light, creating mission-critical control software for a first-of-its-kind energy networking platform. The team is small and technically intense, focused on designing and deploying foundational embedded software architecture from the ground up - unconstrained by legacy decisions. This is a high-ownership embedded systems role where you will own the firmware and software stack end-to-end, from low-level microcontroller control systems through high-level state management and telemetry. The team is actively re-architecting core systems to be modular and scalable, giving you the chance to shape foundational architecture as the company grows.
Responsibilities:What You'll Own:- Develop, validate, and deploy complex hard real-time embedded software on real hardware across laser alignment, safety-critical systems, and power conversion
- Architect core middleware for communication, state-machine control, and telemetry with robust error handling across the entire stack
- Write low-level drivers for microcontroller peripherals and communication interfaces (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART)
- Build and maintain automated test systems and CI/CD pipelines to support rapid iteration on real hardware
- Own foundational embedded software architecture decisions that scale as the product grows
- Collaborate across systems, hardware, optical, and mechanical engineering to solve real-world physics problems
Requirements:- C/C++ real-time embedded systems - microcontroller focus, not desktop code
- Strong understanding of communication protocols: CAN, SPI, I2C, UART
- CI/CD, automated testing, and modern development workflows
- Comfortable with modern C++ standards - not legacy embedded patterns
- Robotics or aerospace background a strong plus
- Sydney, Australia - in-person 5 days/week (3/2 or 4/1 hybrid flexibility) visa sponsorship available for international candidates relocating to Australia
WHY THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY- First-of-its-kind wireless energy delivery platform - genuinely novel technology at the intersection of embedded systems, optics, and power conversion
- Seed-stage company with a technically intense, small team - high ownership from day one with no legacy constraints
- Active re-architecture in progress - you aren't inheriting a frozen codebase you're shaping the foundation
- Direct cross-functional collaboration with hardware, optical, and mechanical engineering - rare depth of exposure for an embedded engineer
- Equity included (0.1%, standard 4-year vest) - real upside in a category-defining deep tech company
- Strong benefits: 8 weeks paid parental leave, unlimited paid personal leave, $1K AUD annual wellness/growth budget, relocation support (pets included), and company social events
- Fully equipped laser facilities with cutting-edge hardware on-site
