We’re working with a well-established semiconductor company looking to expand their technical team with a skilled RF Applications Engineer. This position is ideal for engineers with hands-on RF experience who are interested in a customer-facing, technically diverse role that bridges design, support, and product expertise.
As an RF Applications Engineer, you’ll provide critical technical support across a global customer base, working closely with engineering, sales, and product teams. You’ll focus on advanced RF, microwave, and mmWave components (up to 50GHz), as well as broader voice and data solutions including analogue, mixed-signal, and digital baseband devices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and advise customers on RF, microwave and mmWave components, helping integrate products into cutting-edge designs
- Perform lab-based device testing using RF equipment such as VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators and power meters
- Apply RF impedance matching and Smith Chart analysis to real-world customer challenges
- Interpret S-parameters, linearity metrics (e.g. P1dB, IP3), EVM, ACP, BER, noise figure, and phase noise
- Analyse customer architecture and documentation to provide targeted solutions
- Work with wireless standards such as 802.11, 3GPP 4G/5G, RFID, SatCom, TETRA and IoT protocols
- Utilise tools like Keysight ADS for RF and microwave simulation
- Create documentation, application notes and training materials to support product adoption
- Provide internal feedback to influence product development and definition
Required Experience
- Experience in RF engineering or an adjacent field, ideally including applications or design engineering
- Hands-on lab experience with RF test setups and a deep understanding of system-level architectures (RF to bits)
- Competence in circuit design, schematic capture and PCB layout for RF
- Understanding of sub-system components such as PAs, LNAs, VCOs, modulators, mixers, filters, and transceivers
- Familiarity with compound semiconductor technologies (e.g. GaAs, GaN) and silicon-based processes (CMOS, BiCMOS)
Candidate Profile
- Technically strong, with excellent communication skills
- Comfortable working across teams and interfacing directly with customers
- Passionate about RF innovation and continuous learning
- Able to juggle multiple projects while maintaining quality and clarity
Location & Benefits:
- Based in Somerset, UK – easily commutable from Bath, Bristol and surrounding areas
- Competitive salary (DOE)
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Pension scheme, private healthcare, death-in-service cover
- Free on-site parking
- Visa sponsorship and relocation package available (if applicable)
