Job Description:
Job Purpose To broaden participation in vocationally linked theological education by encouraging a broad range of students, including non-traditional students, to enrol in ‘Short’ Courses offered through Glasgow University’s Theology and Religious Studies Subject Area and to play a key role in the development of our successful Masters programme in Theology and Ministry. To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by undertaking a range of teaching, assessment and administrative duties on short courses, at undergraduate and at postgraduate level, in relation to Theology and Religious Studies, as directed by the Head of School and contribute to learning and teaching objectives in the School of Critical Studies. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Contribute to the planning, organisation and delivery of the TRS Short Course range and to other teaching within Theology and Religious Studies in the School of Critical Studies. 2. Deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities directed towards the delivery of subjects at undergraduate level and to the ultimate achievement of School /Subject objectives.
3. Participate in a range of course administration duties, within required timescales, including effective communication of information, marking, assessment and timeous constructive feedback. 4. Assist with the development of appropriate teaching materials ensuring content and methods of delivery meet determined learning objectives.
5. Contribute to the effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision including the use of Moodle and other ICT materials. 6. Apply specialist knowledge to teaching that best meets the needs of individuals and groups of learners, ensuring an inclusive and evidence-based approach that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
7. Participate in the full assessment process using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students that supports their learning. 8. Assist with the supervision of student projects, dissertations, and any practical work, advising on skills, methods and techniques to assist the transfer of knowledge, and respond appropriately to the diverse range of learner support/needs.
9. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate. 10. Assist with and undertake any other relevant duties as requested by the Head of School or Subject Area. Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential: A1 PhD or DMin in relevant Theology & Religious Studies discipline A2 Up-to-date knowledge of subject area, to include a broad knowledge of pastoral studies/practical theology, missiology and congregational learning A3 Knowledge of the context for vocationally linked theological education in relation to the practice of ministries and congregational life in churches within the UK and Ireland Desirable: B1 Developed specialism in pastoral studies/practical theology B2 Evidence of scholarship in a relevant field B3 Knowledge of the Scottish context, including of the Church of Scotland Skills Essential: C1 Excellent communication skills both oral and written
C2 Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills C3 Ability to work independently and as part of a team
C4 Time management skills C5 Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly
C6 IT literate Experience Essential: E1 Relevant experience of teaching in relevant subject area(s) within Theology and Religious Studies E2 Experience of practice within pastoral studies contexts in congregations/faith communities E3 Relevant administrative experience (e.g. Student support, course administration etc.) Desirable:
F1 Experience of teaching in a range of HE situations (from lectures to small group seminars) including online and hybrid formats F2 Experience of convening undergraduate course(s) in a relevant subject area F3 Experience of leading groups or courses in congregational learning situations F4 Experience of contributing to education of ordinands/ministry candidates
Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 7, £40,247 - £45,163 per annum. This post is full time and fixed term for up to 2 years.
