Full Professor (W3) in Machine Elements and Systems Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of machine elements and systems engineering, to be filled as soon as pos- sible. The professorship heads the Chair of Machine Elements and Sys- tem Development (MSE). It researches and models the behavior of ma- chine elements as a basis for understanding mechatronic systems. Mod- eling highly loaded contacts requires the continuation of tribological re- search, for example regarding service life behavior using multi-scale approaches. The contact models are used to build mechatronic system models in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) environments. Ex- isting MBSE methods are researched and further developed, for example to enable virtual and digital twins as well as virtual testing procedures. In particular, the use of knowledge contained in MBSE system models with the help of AI for product development is intended to be expanded by the professorship. This competence of the MSE is relevant for the interdisci- plinary collaboration of several institutes in the newly established Aachen Center for Product Development. The professorship covers mandatory courses in the fields of machine elements, tribology, and product devel- opment at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels and uses digital devel- opment platforms for this purpose. Applications from engineers with industry experience are welcome.
The requirements include a doctoral degree and additional research ex- perience, such as a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) or equivalent achievements gained as a university researcher or professor or in a research position outside academia. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent Ger- man is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.
Application documents should be submitted in English.
