Begin date: 8/11/2026 Full Time: Yes Number of Workers Requested: 1 Job Duties: Workers will perform hands-on animal husbandry and maintenance tasks required for a large-scale registered cattle seedstock and feedlot operation across a nearly 20,000-acre ranch. Under SOC Code 45-2093, duties include daily care, feeding, monitoring, and handling of beef cattle, calves, replacement heifers, and bulls at various stages of production. August – September (Facility Prep, Gathering, & Weaning): Clean, sanitize, power-wash, and repair feedlot pens, bunk lines, and waterers. Ride ATVs and side by sides across rugged terrain to gather, herd, and trail cattle from mountain pastures. Sort and separate calves from mother cows (weaning). Process and transition newly weaned calves into the feedlot facility. October – November (Pregnancy Checks, Cow Feeding, & Production Sale): Assist veterinarians with pregnancy checking and sorting cows. Feed mother cows in designated winter pastures. Prepare registered females for the October production sale: handle, sort, vaccinate, clip hair, groom, and assist with video cataloging. Maintain daily feed and health regimens for existing yearlings and 2-year-old stock remaining in the feedlot. December – January (Bull Sale Prep & Winter Feeding): Assist with feedlot nutrition for up to 600 head of cattle at maximum capacity. Monitor animals for sickness, injuries, or cold stress, and administer medications under supervision. Assist with prepping seed stock bulls for the annual sale: sort, clip, and assist with semen evaluation, trichomoniasis testing, high-altitude pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) testing, and catalog media collection. February – April (Ranch Bull Sale & Calving Season): Assist with physical setup and tear down for the mid-February on-ranch bull sale, including moving panels and sorting sale lots. Assist with loading sold bulls onto transport trucks. Transition immediately into calving season monitoring. Night-walk pastures and calving sheds, identify cows in labor, assist with difficult births (dystocia), pull calves, if necessary, ensure calves nurse, and administer colostrum. Ear-tag, weigh, vaccinate, and castrate newborn calves, maintaining accurate data logs. May – June 10 (Breeding Programs & Pasture Turnout): Administer specialized reproductive protocols, mineral tubes, and vitamins to prep cattle for re-breeding. Sort, corral, and assist with vaccinating cattle. Help prepare yearling replacement heifers for the Artificial Insemination (AI) program and mature cows for the Embryo Transfer (ET) program following strict timing charts. Assist technicians with AI and ET processes. Sort and load over 400 bred females and bulls into trailers for turnout into 14 distinct mountain pastures grazing leases. General Maintenance & Equipment Operation: Operate tractors, trucks, feed wagons, and grain augers to mix and distribute rations. Perform routine maintenance on ranch vehicles, tractors, and heavy machinery. Repair and build barbed wire fences, gates, corrals, and working chutes. Clear snow from feed bunks, gates, and water facilities using tractors or shovels during winter. Maintain clean, safe, and organized barns, stalls, and employee housing facilities. Additional cattle workers are not needed during the months of June and July when cattle are on mountain pasture. During those months the 2 year old stock remaining in the feedlot will be managed by year round staff. During peak calving season (February April), work shifts will fluctuate to include rotating night-watch duties to monitor heifers and cows. Daily start and end times will vary based on livestock needs. Number of Hours Per Week: 50 Work Schedule (Start/End time): 7:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
