Engineering Manager

This is a pivotal leadership role within the Jobs Leadership Team (JLT). You will play a critical role in translating strategy into a clear, actionable technical roadmap, fostering a culture of technical excellence, and continuously elevating our engineering practices to meet the evolving demands of the market and our users. **What success looks like role:** In this role, your success will be defined by your ability to strategically lead and deliver, with a clear focus on commercial outcomes and long-term impact. You will be highly successful if: * **You're a Strategic Technical Leader:** Own and drive the technical roadmap for Jobs, aligning with business strategy to position Trade Me for future innovation and market leadership. Your ability to align technical efforts will ensure holistic solutions that drive strategic outcomes for Trade Me. * **You Champion Technical Excellence and Innovation:** Lead in advocating for and implementing best-in-class engineering practices, architectural decisions, and innovative solutions that enhance our product and capabilities. * **You Proactively Manage Risk and Dependencies:** Anticipate and address technical risks, dependencies, and challenges, ensuring smooth project delivery and maintaining system integrity **What you will bring to our team:** * **Experienced Practitioner (10+ years):** Deep understanding of architecture, design patterns, and modern engineering practices. Proven track record delivering complex, strategic technical initiatives in agile environments. * **People Leadership (5+ years):** Successfully led, mentored, and developed medium-to-large engineering teams, achieving strategic objectives and fostering continuous improvement. * **Technical Breadth and Depth:** Experience across various technologies and architectures. Ability to collaborate with technical leaders and PSEs to establish high-impact architecture and practices. * **Customer-Centric Focus:** Passion for creating exceptional customer experiences, understanding technology's direct impact on user value. * **Strategic Mindset:** Ability to feed into overall strategy, build clear technical vision for Jobs, define plans, and inspire diverse teams. Anticipates future needs. * **Results-Oriented and Commercial Acumen:** Understands business context, translates technical decisions into commercial impact, and delivers measurable value. * **Collaborative and Influential:** Excels at building alignment with teams and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and driving consensus toward strategic goals. * **Strong Communication and Storytelling:** Articulates complex technical concepts clearly to all audiences, influences stakeholders, and celebrates achievements. * **Problem-Solving and Decision Making:** Strong analytical skills, makes sound, data-informed decisions under pressure, even in ambiguous environments.
