About the role:

Operating within National School of Philosophy, the Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (Normative Ethics/Political Philosophy) provides high quality teaching in the School's philosophy program, undertakes quality research and publish in their area of their philosophical expertise, and undertakes external engagement and internal service. The area of research specialisation is Normative Ethics and/or Political Philosophy. Competency in decision theory and/or democratic theory would be an advantage.

The successful incumbent will be expected to:
  • Contribute to curriculum development of undergraduate and/or post-graduate units in the School of Philosophy in a variety of modes ranging from face-to-face classes to synchronous and asynchronous online delivery.
  • Teach across aspects of philosophical ethics and/or social and political philosophy and related areas, at least to an undergraduate level.
  • Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree (including PhD) students in areas of philosophical expertise.
  • Conduct high-quality research and publish in normative ethics and/or social and/or political philosophy with highly-ranked international journals and book publishers, and seek external funding for research projects.
  • Undertake coursework administration and other School-based service efficiently and collegially.
  • Engage in community and stakeholder engagement initiatives, as appropriate.

Additionally, the successful candidate is to demonstrate a strong understanding of the University's Catholic Identity and Mission and how it applies to academic work by contributing to the integration of principles of social justice, the pursuit of truth and care for the common good in all areas of academic activity relevant to the Teaching and Research Academic Pathway.

What we offer:
  • The University pursues an excellence agenda and offers an environment where staff are welcomed and safe, and valued through development, participation and involvement.
  • Total remuneration valued to $142,635 - $168,287 total rem (pro rata) pa, including salary component $120,529 - $142,305 (pro rata) pa (Lecturer - Academic Level B), employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading. Total remuneration valued to $178,482 - $193,772 total rem (pro rata) pa, including salary component $151,018 - $164,087 (pro rata) pa (Senior Lecturer - Academic Level C), employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
  • 17% employer superannuation contributions to eligible continuing and fixed-term staff.
  • Annual leave loading of an equivalent to 17.5% of four weeks' salary pro rata payable, dependent on your commencement date.
