Job Description:
Are you passionate about public health challenges and contributing to the fight against antimicrobial resistance? Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher and Innovation Associate to join a dynamic, multidisciplinary research project on a full-time, fixed-term contract. As Postdoctoral Researcher you will be joining a dynamic, interdisciplinary research consortium to tackle drug-resistant TB. This role is part of an inter-institutional collaboration and offers the opportunity to work with the University of Oxford. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global concern, with an estimated death toll of 10 million people per year by 2050. Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of human mortality from a single infectious pathogen, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and is one of the biggest contributors to AMR. The role will include microbiological and cell-biological techniques, assay development and optimisation, performing evaluations, and analysing, interpreting and presenting data. To succeed as Postdoctoral Researcher you will:
  • Have excellent organisational and laboratory management skills, as well as accurate attention to detail
  • Be a team player able to support other members of the group, including graduate and undergraduate project students
  • Be responsible for delivering the proposed research objectives in a timely manner, further developing the research, innovation, and knowledge exchange partnerships
  • Conduct both independent and collaborative investigations that lead to high-quality research publications.

Some travel to collaborator institutes (University of Oxford) will be required for training and tech-transfer. The role also offers exceptional opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration, professional development, and international research exchange. This project aligns with the WHO’s ‘End TB Strategy’ to combat infectious diseases globally. Salary and benefits: £43,636 to £49,683 per annum. Grade 7 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance.
