The School of Applied Sciences (SOAS) is a highly successful, dynamic and evolving School comprising approx. 100 academic and research staff and 60+ PGR researchers. The School successfully delivers a cohesive portfolio of science courses and CPD which allows multidisciplinary working and encourages a problem-solving mind-set.
The School is supported by three UWE Research Centres; the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR) , the Science Communication Unit (SCU) , the Centre for Sustainable Agri-food and Environment (SAFE) and the Institute of Biosensing Technology (IBST) . The School has state-of-the-art research facilities including recently refurbished molecular biology laboratories, cell culture facilities, imaging suite, human analysis laboratory, electron microscope unit and specialised facilities for the development of bio-sensors.
The School of Applied Sciences has a successful and growing portfolio of health-related programmes and research. We have a long and successful history of delivering programmes in the Biomedical Sciences and more recently we have developed a highly successful MSc in Health Technology, and an MSc Applied Transfusion and Transplant Science working with NHS Blood and Transplant. The School of Applied Sciences is a very proud recipient of an Athena SWAN Silver Award and our commitment to creating a culture for gender equality is reflected in a number of ongoing actions related to workload management, flexible working and career development within the School.
Within the College, the School of Health and Social Wellbeing (SHSW) has an established reputation delivering a range of health and allied health courses. This includes nursing, paramedic science, radiography, etc. and the highly successful Independent Prescribing course.
We are seeking an Associate Professor in Pharmaceutics with significant experience of pursuing an independent line of pharmacy-related research. The post holder will pursue knowledge exchange or research in the field of pharmaceutics (e.g. personalised medicines, drug development, formulation science), including publishing outputs and pursuing external income. You will contribute to the development and delivery of a new MPharm programme which is progressing through GPhC accreditation. They will have demonstrable depth and breadth of knowledge and expertise in contemporary pharmaceutics. They will provide leadership in teaching, learning and assessment in the area of pharmaceutics, preparing students to become competent pharmacy practitioners.
The Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics will be a member of the College of Health, Science and Society (CHSS), and although based within the School of Applied Sciences they will work across the College. CHSS is a large, diverse and dynamic College within the University ecosystem with an extensive research portfolio ranging from fundamental to applied and practice-oriented and is supported through a number of established Research Centres. Our research is funded by the UK Research Councils, Innovate UK, National Institute for Health Research, local businesses, national and international industry, European Commission and other competitive national and international funding bodies.
You will undertake teaching, leadership and supervision duties within the MPharm and may contribute to other programmes within the College. They will develop links with relevant stakeholders from the pharmaceutical industry to feed into the curriculum and to promote research opportunities.
About you:
You will be expected to have a PhD in a subject relevant to this post or have a relevant master’s qualification with significant professional practice. We are seeking an Associate Professor in Pharmaceutics with significant experience of pursuing an independent line of pedagogic or pharmacy-related research. They will also provide leadership in teaching, learning and assessment in the area of pharmaceutics, preparing students to become competent pharmacy practitioners. The post holder will undertake teaching, leadership and supervision duties within the MPharm and may contribute to other programmes within the College.
They will develop links with relevant stakeholders from the pharmaceutical industry to feed into the curriculum and to promote research opportunities. This new Associate Professor post will build upon the existing research expertise and strengths across the college. Preference will be given to those with experience of delivering teaching within an MPharm degree programme and familiar with industrial pharmaceutics.
We are looking for candidates who align to the UWE values. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate their experience of leading and motivating groups of people, collegiate working and their organisational skills. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate how they will keep abreast of latest developments in this subject area and external best practice benchmarks.
You will be supported in this role by an experienced associate professor as a mentor. The school provides staff development funds to support personal and subject related training for academic staff.
