Yearly Closing date: 28/07/2026 23:59Job overviewThe pathway assistant role is an exciting opportunity to join our administration team in the Endoscopy Unit which provides first‑class administration and reception services to the Division. As part of the Patient Pathway team, the Pathway Assistant/Receptionist plays a key front‑facing administrative role within the GI Physiology Unit, providing a professional and welcoming reception service to patients, visitors and staff. The role involves acting as the first point of contact within the department, ensuring patients are greeted courteously, enquiries are handled efficiently, and the reception area runs smoothly on a daily basis. Key responsibilities include tracking patients through their care pathways, processing clinical correspondence in a timely manner, and providing essential administrative support to the Clinical team and wider multidisciplinary team to help maintain an organised and efficient service.Main duties of the jobThe role also involves answering telephone calls, responding to patient and staff enquiries, managing reception duties, updating patient information, and supporting the day‑to‑day administrative functions of the GI Physiology Unit. In addition, the post holder will provide general administrative support to the clinical, management and administrative teams to ensure the smooth running of the department. Successful candidates will have previous administration experience and either experience of working in an NHS organisation or a desire to work within a healthcare organisation. They will be able to communicate with a range of patients and colleagues and possess excellent team‑working, negotiation and organisation skills. Above all they will be committed to helping us deliver excellent patient care.   • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, acquired through training and/or previous experience of working in an administrative environment.
  • Awareness of the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and knowledge of the Data Protection Act.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, Customer Service, Healthcare Support Services or equivalent qualification.

Experience
  • Experience of working in a non‑routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of being able to respond to queries and deal with unpredictable situations as they arise (acquired through experience and/or training to Vocational level 3 or equivalent).
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment, with knowledge of a comprehensive range of administrative procedures.
