Job Description:
JOB SUMMARYConstruction Estimators prepare and deliver estimates and costs for construction projects up to the tender settlement stage. You’ll contribute to projects ranging from commercial builds and government contracts to large-scale infrastructure.JMA Construction Estimators support the Construction Division by providing accurate quotes to allow Project Managers to tender for upcoming projects. They may, with the assistance of Sales or Project Manager become more involved in the role as time progresses with the goal of further supporting the Project Manager as they become more familiar with the business. POSITION OBJECTIVEProviding timely and accurate quoting by:· Read and understanding technical data· Calculating costs and estimates time scales for work completion.· Interpret plans, regulations and codes of practice to meet Australian Standards· Prioritise workload whilst monitoring work schedule time frames imposed by customers· Producing written quotes to share with the management team KEY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ability to interpret engineering, architectural drawings, and CAD models with precision
  • Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather and validate pricing information
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for structural steel projects, including materials, labour, and project requirements clearly outlining inclusions and exclusions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements throughout the estimation process
  • Contribute to tender submissions and ensure that estimates are competitive and comprehensive
  • Responsible for compiling written quotes for customers through a variety of tender portals or as direct emails
  • Work closely with the project delivery team to ensure smooth handovers and exceptional client satisfaction
  • Review and interpret project plans, structural drawings, and technical specifications to determine scope and requirements including maintaining and updating records of estimates, budgets, and project cost histories
  • Monitor and track project costs during execution, ensuring adherence to budgets
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project and General Manager to review previous estimates and learnings.
  • Know and operate within the policies and procedures of JMA Engineering and
  • customers when onsite.
  • Follow safe work practices and report workplace hazards.

  • Understand and undertake basic quality control/assurance procedures including the ability to recognise basic quality deviations/faults.
  • Able to accept responsibility and accountability for actions
  • Attend / complete mandatory training as required

ESSENTIAL PERSON SPECIFICATION CRITERIA:
  • Proven experience in heavy steel fabrication estimation
  • Strong knowledge of steel design, fabrication processes, and industry standards
  • Qualifications such as:

o Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or similaro Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineeringo Project Management experience in heavy fabrication
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment with changing schedules
  • Self-starter who is motivated and proactive, reliable and punctual
  • Team player with ability to work well under direction
  • Ability to follow and adhere pre-programmed plans working autonomously
  • Uses initiative to identify opportunities and issues and develop and implement plans and solutions.
  • Digital proficiency: Familiarity with CAD, Excel and other office programs
  • Can work with minimum direction and supervision and come together for team meetings and collaboration when required.
  • Self-motivated, driven, and capable of meeting deadlines under pressure regardless of shifting priorities.
  • Sense of loyalty and commitment along with excellent time management skills
  • Undertake and pass drug and alcohol screening on request with a negative result.

QUALIFICATION SKILLS and EXPERIENCE: Essential

  • Trade knowledge or experience

  • Full Australian working rights

Job Types: Full-time, PermanentPay: $70,000.00 – $80,000.00 per yearBenefits:

Schedule:
