Barista

Position: Barista Location: Kingsland, Auckland Reports to: Café Manager / Supervisor Role Purpose To prepare and serve high-quality coffee and beverages, provide excellent customer service, and contribute to the smooth running of the café in line with New Zealand hospitality standards. Key Responsibilities Coffee & Beverage Preparation

• Prepare espresso-based coffees, teas, and other beverages to a consistent standard.
• Calibrate and maintain espresso machines and grinders daily.
• Follow café recipes for specialty drinks.

Customer Service

• Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Take orders accurately and provide product recommendations when required.
• Handle customer feedback and complaints politely and efficiently.

Café Operations

• Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in the café, following NZ Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations.
• Restock coffee, milk, and supplies as required.
• Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash/card transactions accurately.
• Assist with food preparation and serving if required.

Teamwork & Compliance

• Work collaboratively with other team members to deliver a smooth service.
• Adhere to company policies, including health and safety, food handling, and hygiene standards.
• Maintain knowledge of café products, seasonal offerings, and promotions.

Skills & Attributes

• Previous barista or café experience preferred (training can be provided).
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Good time management and multitasking ability.
• Reliable, punctual, and positive attitude.
• Basic knowledge of New Zealand food safety standards (Unit Standard 167 recommended).

Qualifications (Desirable but not essential)

• Barista training certificate (e.g., NZQA Unit Standards 17284 or equivalent).
• Food Safety Certificate (NZQA Unit Standard 167).

Hours of Work

• Full-time, rostered shifts including weekends and public holidays
