Minimum Hours: 30 hours per week
Pay Rate: $25.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on skills and experienceWe are seeking an experienced and reliable Baker to join our café team in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty. This is a full-time position requiring a motivated person who can prepare and bake a range of breads, rolls, buns, cakes, biscuits, pastries and other baked goods for café service.The successful applicant must be able to work early starts, weekends and rostered shifts as required.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Baker will be responsible for:
  • Preparing and baking bread loaves, rolls, buns, cakes, biscuits, pastries and other baked goods.
  • Checking the cleanliness of equipment and the operating condition of the premises before production runs to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety and food safety requirements.
  • Checking the quality of raw materials and weighing ingredients accurately.
  • Kneading, maturing, cutting, moulding, mixing and shaping dough and pastry products.
  • Preparing pastry fillings and other bakery components.
  • Monitoring oven temperatures and product appearance to determine correct baking times.
  • Coordinating the forming, loading, baking, unloading, de-panning and cooling of batches of bread, rolls, cakes and pastry products.
  • Glazing buns and pastries and decorating cakes with cream, icing or other toppings as required.
  • Operating bakery equipment and machines used to roll, mould, mix or cut dough and bakery products.
  • Emptying, cleaning and greasing baking trays, tins and other baking equipment.
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and food safety.
  • Assisting with stock rotation, ordering and storage of baking ingredients.
  • Working with the café team to ensure baked goods are prepared on time and to the required quality standard.

Skills, Experience and Qualification RequirementsApplicants must have at least one of the following:
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience as a Baker, Pastrycook or in a similar bakery/café production role; or
  • A relevant qualification in baking, patisserie, cookery or a related field.

Preference may be given to applicants who have:
  • Experience working in a commercial bakery, café, restaurant or hospitality kitchen.
  • Good knowledge of bakery production, dough preparation and oven operation.
  • Hands-on experience using commercial kitchen and bakery equipment.
  • Good time management and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends and public holidays if required.
  • A strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
