Find your passion in New Zealand - Join us as a Junior Doctor in 2026

New Zealand's annual recruitment cycle for positions starting in January 2026 is now open, closing on 9 June 2025. Most of our Junior Doctor positions at Health New Zealand are filled during our Annual Recruitment Cycle, whether you're in formal training or not.

Discover balance, purpose, and opportunity.

We're looking for Junior Doctors (FY2+ / CT1 / IMT1 / ST1) and Senior House Officers) who are ready to grow their careers while exploring everything New Zealand offers.

With a publicly funded healthcare system, diverse clinical experience, and a welcoming team environment, Junior Doctors - referred to as Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) in New Zealand - will find a place to thrive professionally and personally.

Why choose New Zealand for your next medical adventure?

Fast-Tracked Residency - Tier 1 Green List
RMOs are on Tier 1 of New Zealand's Green List, meaning you can apply for a Straight to Residence Visa before you arrive. As an accredited employer, we will support your journey from application to arrival - including your family's transition.

Supportive Teams & Inclusive Workplaces
You'll join collaborative, multidisciplinary teams with a culture of support and learning. Whether you're arriving solo or with loved ones, our teams can help with visas, settling in, housing, and community connections.

Diverse Clinical Exposure & Hands-On Training
You'll rotate through a variety of departments, gaining exposure to a wide range of conditions and patient demographics. We offer structured supervision, protected teaching time, and active participation in procedures - helping you build confidence and skills essential for specialist training.

Streamlined Registration for Eligible Doctors

Doctors trained in the UK, Ireland or Australia may qualify for simplified registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Visit our careers site for more information on the process.

A Lifestyle You'll Love

Outside of work, you'll find stunning natural landscapes, vibrant cities, and a strong sense of community. Whether it's beaches, ski fields, hiking trails or festivals - you're never far from your next adventure.

Standardised Pay & Benefits

RMOs receive nationally standardised salaries with additional allowances for after-hours work and long service. Benefits may include:
  • 6 weeks of annual leave
  • 12 public holidays
  • At least 10 days' sick leave
  • CME leave and funded training opportunities
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance
