Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Position Description

The Associate Professor faculty position provides leadership in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical practice within the School of Nursing. This faculty position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in online, classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings; fostering student success through academic advising and mentorship; engaging in scholarly activities appropriate to rank; and contributing to the mission of the School of Nursing and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) through service, professional engagement, and program development.

The ideal candidate demonstrates excellence in teaching, maintains academic standards, supports curriculum development and evaluation, and contributes to the advancement of nursing education through research, scholarship, and professional practice activities.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing is dedicated to training knowledgeable, compassionate nurses and nurse practitioners to meet the critical nursing shortage in West Texas and across the nation. For 40 years, the School of Nursing has educated new nurses, strengthened the careers of experienced nurses, and prepared innovative nurses to become leaders in health care.

Major/Essential Functions

Teaching and Instruction

  • Provide academic and clinical instruction within the School of Nursing.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct educational experiences in online, classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing students using evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Maintain academic standards established by the School of Nursing and TTUHSC.
  • Assume responsibility for and/or participate in the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of assigned courses.
  • Incorporate current knowledge, emerging technologies, and innovative teaching methodologies into course delivery.
  • Evaluate student learning outcomes and provide timely, constructive feedback to support academic success.

Student Advising and Mentorship

  • Provide academic advising, counseling, and professional mentoring to assigned students.
  • Assist students in achieving educational and professional goals through individualized guidance and support.
  • Promote student engagement, retention, and success in the nursing program.

Curriculum and Program Development

  • Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, programs, courses, and student learning activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty colleagues to ensure program compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and institutional standards.
  • Support initiatives that enhance educational quality and student outcomes.

Scholarship and Research

  • Conduct research, scholarly inquiry, clinical scholarship, or professional practice activities consistent with the expectations of an Associate Professor rank.
  • Disseminate scholarly work through publications, presentations, grant activities, or other recognized scholarly outlets.
  • Maintain a scholarly orientation in accordance with the TTUHSC Guidelines for Qualification of Faculty Appointment Rank.
  • Contribute to the advancement of nursing science, education, and practice.

Service and Professional Engagement

  • Participate actively in program, school, university, and community committees and activities.
  • Contribute to faculty governance and institutional initiatives.
  • Maintain membership and active participation in professional nursing and academic associations.
  • Serve on local, state, regional, or national committees within professional organizations.
  • Support activities that promote the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the School of Nursing and TTUHSC.

Professional Development

  • Develop and implement an individualized professional development plan.
  • Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, conferences, and professional meetings to maintain current knowledge and competency.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional growth in teaching, scholarship, leadership, and clinical practice.

Occasional Duties

  • Travel for clinical site visits and for on-campus Intensive classes and simulation events.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate AND Master's in Nursing from a regionally accredited university.
  • Master’s in Business Administration.
  • Current RN/APRN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer license to Texas.
  • Holds national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult Gero Acute Care NP.
  • At least seven (7) years of clinical experience in the advanced practice nursing role as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Gero Acute Care NP.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or education in telehealth practice.
  • Experience in supervising APRN students and APRN projects.
  • Leadership experience related to the coordination of teaching activities.
  • Experience with curriculum, instructional design and implementation, including online education and clinical education.
  • Background in research activities and scholarly achievement.
