About The Role

This is an important post within the Division of Estates, Facilities and Commercial Services. The postholder will be the University lead for Security matters, liaising closely with the outsourced Security team to ensure that our people and our assets are safe and secure. The postholder will lead on the development of processes and procedures, including relevant matters of statutory compliance, eg Martyn’s Law. They will also be responsible for managing the flow of information to senior colleagues, advising appropriately, assessing threats and implementing mitigation plans.

The postholder will also be the University lead for business continuity, related incidents and event management. Within Estates, Facilities and Commercial Services, the postholder will be the owner of all procedures relating to business continuity, related incident management, emergency planning and event management. More broadly, they will be an advocate for business continuity plans (BCPs) across the institution, ensuring that all corporate, Faculty and Professional Services BCPs are up to date and that relevant colleagues are informed and trained in the adoption of the plans.

About You

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience of leading and managing Security, Business Continuity or Emergency Management functions. You will be able to evidence your leadership of change within one or more of these functions, including the development of relevant plans and policies. You are likely to already have a network of external contacts in similar or complementary roles.

The successful candidate will need to bring excellent people skills and be comfortable working with colleagues at all levels of the organisation. There will be times when you are required to brief and reassure senior colleagues about an incident, so poise and authority under pressure is essential. You will have proven experience in working with a range of stakeholders in the preparation and execution of business continuity plans and have the ability to advise others on how they can develop and refine their own plans.

You will be very familiar with relevant legislation such as Prevent and Martyn’s Law, with experience in preparing plans to ensure legal compliance. You will be knowledgeable about best practice around event management and able to advise event organisers on matters of security, health and safety and emergency planning.

Eligibility

Visa Sponsorship Queries: This role may be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. The assigned SOC code is 1259 Managers and proprietors in other services not elsewhere classified and the going rate is £41,700. Eligibility for sponsorship will depend on whether the candidate holds an existing Skilled Worker sponsorship which began before 22 July 2025.

This role involves regular contact with children or vulnerable adults, or positions of trust in legal, financial, and security sectors and therefore will require the successful candidate to complete a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
