About the Role

The Backend Engineering team designs and operates the high-performance systems that power the company’s Checkout product and broader payments stack. Backend Engineers architect APIs, services, and distributed systems that handle payments, settlement, asset conversion, identity/security verification, and multi-chain transaction routing. This is a foundational role building fault-tolerant, low-latency infrastructure that scales globally while meeting security and compliance expectations.

This is an on-site role in Singapore, four days per week (Mon–Thu), with flexible Fridays (WFH optional). The company will support relocation for the right candidates, including Employment Pass (EP) sponsorship.

Reports to: Founding Engineer / Singapore Engineering Lead (with close collaboration with the CTO)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance APIs and backend services for the Web3 payments platform.

• Implement and evolve systems for payments, settlement, transaction routing, asset conversion, and identity/security flows across chains and providers.

• Build new backend features that improve product experience, conversion, and reliability for dApps and partners.

• Participate in system design, architecture reviews, and incident response to ensure reliability, scalability, and fault tolerance.

• Write clean, well-tested code and contribute to code reviews and engineering standards.

Requirements

• Strong experience building production backend systems in a modern language (TypeScript preferred; Go or Rust acceptable for strong systems engineers willing to work in TypeScript).

• Deep understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and database design principles.

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS).

• Solid CS fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and systems design.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English (primary working language).

Bonus Skills

• Experience in payments, fintech infrastructure, or transaction-heavy consumer apps.

• Prior exposure to blockchain integrations, smart contracts, or DeFi protocols.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and real-time data processing.

• Contributions to open source or technical writing in backend, infra, or crypto domains.

• Evidence of exceptional achievement in any domain (athletics, open-source, competitive programming, etc.).

Logistics

Location: Singapore (on-site). Company supports relocation and EP sponsorship for the right candidates.

Compensation: SGD 120,000 – 220,000 base salary (targeting 75th–90th percentile of Singapore market), plus meaningful equity. Exact package confirmed per candidate level.

Benefits: CPF contributions for Singapore citizens/PRs; EP holders receive standard MOM-compliant benefits package. Details to be confirmed.

Interview Process

1. Agency recruiter screening (Worthland Consulting)

2. Recruiter screen with company’s Talent team (cultural fit + logistics)

3. 1-hour live coding interview with CTO or senior backend engineer (language agnostic, application-based)

4. Follow-up systems design / technical deep-dive

5. On-site interviews in Singapore (~2 hours): additional coding + cross-functional cultural interview + CEO chat (virtual if needed)
