KOI Bar & Restaurant is a premium Japanese Fusion venue located on the vibrant Cairns Esplanade, across from the lagoon. With a reputation for creativity, precision, and exceptional hospitality, we are looking for a talented and motivated Sous Chef to join our passionate kitchen team.
About the Role:As Sous Chef, you’ll be a key leader in the kitchen, working closely with the Head Chef to deliver a refined and innovative dining experience. You’ll help oversee kitchen operations, lead by example during busy services, and contribute to the continual development of our modern Japanese Fusion menu.
What You’ll Do:- Assist in the day-to-day running of a fast-paced, high-standard kitchen
- Lead, mentor, and train junior kitchen staff
- Maintain impeccable hygiene and food safety standards
- Collaborate on menu development and dish execution
- Ensure consistency, creativity, and quality across all plates
What We’re Looking For:- Proven experience as a Sous Chef or strong experience as a Senior Chef de Partie
- Solid background in Japanese cuisine or Asian fusion (preferred, not essential)
- High attention to detail, strong leadership skills, and a calm presence under pressure
- A genuine passion for food, creativity, and innovation
- Available to work nights, weekends, and public holidays
