Job Description:
The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Radiology is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist - Radiology vacancy.

This position will be attractive to a highly skilled and motivated medical professional who views challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicant will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

Competitive Salary and Allowances

Base Salary

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
  • Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

Additional Allowances under the Medical Practitioners Award
  • A market allowance from $54,000 to $95,000 pro rata per annum, depending on level of experience.
  • Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 pro rata per annum.
  • On call allowance 1:10, % of Base Salary.
  • All other allowances as per current Award.
  • And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania's largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical, teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. Our Imaging services are comprehensive and include plain Radiography, Fluoroscopy, CT, Ultrasound, MRI , Nuclear Medicine / PET , Interventional and Neurointerventional Radiology.

The Role

Within the discipline of Radiology:
  • Provide Specialist in-patient and out-patient care to patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
  • Be involved with undergraduate teaching and post graduate teaching.
  • Undertake research and quality improvement activities.
  • Conduct radiological examinations and report findings.
  • Provide advice on radiological findings and investigations required to other consultants and medical staff.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, part-time day work (with on-call), working 45.6 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Essential Requirements
  • Holds specialist registration
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted: * Conviction checks in the following areas:
  • Crimes of violence
  • Sex related offences
  • Serious drug offences
  • Crimes involving dishonesty
  • Identification check
  • Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements
  • Competency in the main modalities of CT, MRI, Ultrasound and plain x-ray
  • Competency in Tier A Interventional procedures such as basic diagnostic angiography and interventional techniques
