Head of 2D/2D Supervisor - Sydney

As the Head of 2D/2D Supervisor, you’ll split your time between leading the creative and technical direction of the 2D department with shot work. We are interested in hearing from 2D supervisors as well as from seasoned 2D Leads eager to step into a supervising position. You’ll mentor a growing team of talented compositors, manage projects from concept to completion, and ensure the highest standards of visual quality in all deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

Creative & Technical Oversight:

• Work closely with clients and supervisors to set the creative and technical direction of shots at all stages of the pipeline from bidding, to on set, to VFX production.
• Supervise the compositing pipeline to ensure the highest level of quality.
• Act as the creative lead for 2D projects, collaborating closely with the production and 3Dteams.
• Guide the development of the 2D pipeline and establish technical goals for the pipeline team.
• Take on hands-on compositing responsibilities as needed to deliver hero shots

Leadership & Mentorship:

• Oversee and grow the 2D team.
• Actively mentor team members, fostering skill development and career progression.
• Manage team performance, conduct reviews, and set objectives.

On-Set Collaboration:

• Participate in on-set supervision where required, providing support for VFX shoots.
• Guide the team on set-related workflows and integrate this expertise into the department.

Pipeline Collaboration:

• Work closely with pipeline developers to enhance workflows and ensure efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance and contribute to pipeline innovations.

Client Interaction:

• Represent the 2D department in meetings with clients and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure client briefs are met while managing timelines and resources.

Must-Have Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience as a Lead Compositor or 2D Lead in a professional VFX studio
• Strong expertise in photorealistic compositing, CG integration, and blue/green screen workflows.
• Proficiency in industry-standard tools (e.g., Nuke).
• Exceptional creative eye with a detail-oriented approach.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a collaborative attitude.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• On-set supervision experience or a willingness to learn.
• Knowledge of pipeline workflows and tools development.
• Previous experience in team scaling and talent acquisition.
