Aston Business School is a Triple Accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and recognised as one of the leading Universities in the UK for academic research, excellent teaching and business engagement. We are one of three UK institutions with the Small Business Charter Gold Award. The Accounting and Finance Department within Aston Business School has nearly 50 staff within it specialising in accounting, in finance and in closely related subjects. It manages and delivers a successful and very popular undergraduate programme in accounting and two postgraduate programmes, as well as supporting a range of programmes across the rest of the School delivered in Birmingham, in London and in several places elsewhere in the world. As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking an inspirational and highly motivated individual to contribute to the development of the Department’s research, teaching, citizenship and PhD/DBA supervision. There is a thriving teaching innovation and research culture in the Department, which has a strong reputation for being both rigorous, timely and relevant. The core research areas of focus currently within the department include all aspects of accounting governance and regulation, management accounting and the use of accounting information for decision making, accountability, accounting pedagogy and taxation. The department contains two distinct research units – related to public sector and not-for-profit reporting and governance and in sustainability accounting, governance and reporting. It also hosts a Research Centre in personal financial wellbeing and a Research Group in fraud. We are looking for people with applied / empirical research skills, a natural collaborator with others, and a ‘hands-on’ and ‘can-do’ attitude. We seek individuals to play key roles in developing research in the department that will attract external funding and research council income and create impact from high profile external engagement. We are keen to grow the above listed current research foci of the department, to strengthen our research profile, impact generation and business/policy support provision. The successful candidate for this role will play a key role in these developments, and particularly if appointed at the Senior Lecturer level, will be expected to play a leadership role in one of more of these endeavours. You will have a good first degree, a Master degree and relevant professional qualifications and/or a PhD, teaching qualifications and experience, or equivalents, all in a relevant academic discipline. It would also be desirable to have industry experience in accounting if this has been part of your career to date. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, talented, gregarious team-playing individual to take a lead role in supporting the growth of an excellent department.
