Chef Position – Full-Time We are looking for a passionate and experienced Chef to join our team and contribute to the growth of our business located in Palmerston North.The ideal candidate will specialise in preparing a variety of steak dishes, pasta, and gourmet burgers, with strong knowledge of continental, fusion, and finger foods. You will also bring a good understanding of food trends and business development, helping us enhance our menu and overall operations.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and cook a wide range of dishes, including steaks, pasta, and burgers
- Ensure all food meets the restaurant’s quality and presentation standards
- Manage portion control and maintain consistency in meals
- Check freshness and quality of ingredients
- Assist in developing new recipes and menu ideas
- Prepare sauces, gravies, and garnishes
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness
- Monitor storage practices, including correct use of chiller and freezer
- Record food temperatures and assist in compliance with council regulations
- Support busy service periods and collaborate with front-of-house staff when required
- Handle customer feedback and adjust recipes to meet dietary needs
- Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure functionality
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organised kitchen at all times
- Follow health & safety procedures, including compliance with NZ regulations
- Contribute to a positive team environment and maintain good staff relationships
Requirements- Minimum 1 year of experience as a chef or cook, preferably with steak, pasta, and burger preparation
- Qualification in cookery (Level 2 or 3 preferred but not essential)
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, fusion cuisine, and menu development
- Understanding of business growth and food costing is an advantage
- Ability to work independently and under pressure during busy service periods
- Good English communication skills
- Reliable, honest, and dedicated
- Flexible to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Willingness to obtain LCQ and Manager’s Certificate if required
