Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Principal ASIC Engineer to lead our ICD chip design from our Irvine office. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-performance ASIC solutions that meet the rigorous standards of the cardiac rhythm management industry. Responsibilities1. ASIC Design and Development:
- Oversee the design, development, testing, and delivery of ultra-low-power digital signal ASICs for cardiac rhythm management devices.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., software engineers, system architects) to define ASIC requirements, specifications, and interfaces for the ICD chip.
- Design, develop, and maintain the overall architecture of the ICD chip, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for medical devices.
2. ASIC Block Development:
- Oversee the development, verification, and maintenance of digital and analog ASIC blocks, including processor, memory, and peripheral circuits.
- Ensure that all blocks meet performance, power, and area targets.
3. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with software engineers, system architects, quality assurance personnel, and other teams to ensure successful project execution and integration.
- Regularly communicate with the Chinese R&D team through video conferencing and phone calls.
- Coordinate with the Chinese quality assurance and production teams to ensure seamless integration of ASIC design and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with global stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of the ICD chipset development process meet company standards.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Develop and implement processes to ensure compliance with ISO 13485, FDA QSR, and other relevant regulatory requirements for medical devices.
- Collaborate with quality assurance personnel to ensure that all ASIC-related testing and validation activities meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
5. Project Management:
- Develop and manage schedules for ICD chipset R&D projects.
- Drive results-oriented projects that meet or exceed expectations in terms of quality and timing.
6. Communication and Leadership:
- Foster an environment of collaboration and open communication among team members.
- Lead and mentor a small team of 3-5 members, ensuring alignment with project goals.
Requirements:1. Educational Background:
- Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
2. Experience:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in digital or mixed-signal ASIC design and development, with multiple successful tapeouts.
3. Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of digital circuit design, simulation, and verification.
- Deep knowledge of silicon fabrication processes and their impact on device physics, device models, and circuit performance.
- Expertise in ultra-low-power circuit and system design.
- Familiarity with general analog circuits such as bias, bandgap, AC, LDO, op-amp, and charge pump.
- Experience debugging, resolving, and mitigating design issues.
4. Preferred Experience:
- Familiarity with MCU peripherals (e.g., ADC, SPI, I2C, UART, Timer, PWM) and inter-peripheral communication.
Experience with:
- Flexible configuration and scalability for various applications.
- Coulomb counters for power consumption estimation.
- Cold standby redundancy design for fail-safe operation.
- MCU integration with Cortex M0 or RISC-V.
5. Tools:
- Proficiency with Cadence design tools.
6. Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong desire to continuously seek ways to improve processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs while maintaining quality.
- Ability to articulate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Job Type: Full-time; On-site
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Mon – Fri
