Internal Audit Director

We're looking for an Internal Audit Director to establish and lead our Group's internal audit function. You'll set the strategic direction and deliver independent assurance and advisory services that strengthen governance, risk management, and internal controls. This is a unique opportunity to shape a modern audit function that goes beyond compliance, enabling smarter decisions, protecting value, and creating value across the Tonkin + Taylor Group.
The opportunity Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the Board Audit & Risk Committee and Group Leadership Team, you'll design and deliver the Internal Audit Charter, strategy, methodology, and annual plan. You'll collaborate across our businesses in Australasia, providing insights on strategic, operational, and emerging risks while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and ethical leadership.
What you'll be doing Strategic leadership
- Define and implement the Group's Internal Audit vision, strategy, and long-term roadmap aligned with business goals.
- Maintain the Internal Audit Charter in line with IIA Standards/IPPF and Global Internal Audit Standards.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CFO, Board, and senior leaders with clear insight on strategic and emerging risks.
- Evolve the audit function into a value-focused team that enhances performance, governance, and risk culture.
Internal audit delivery
- Build a Group-wide audit function focused on value creation, value protection, and performance improvement.
- Provide independent, risk-based assurance over internal controls, governance, and risk management.
- Lead and oversee high-impact audits, reviews, investigations, and advisory projects.
- Deliver clear, actionable reports that drive positive change.
- Work closely with external auditors and specialists to enhance transparency and eliminate duplication.
- Enhance the use of data analytics, automation, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities to strengthen controls, lift efficiency, and manage risk more effectively
- Build collaboration and align best practice across business units and risk functions.
- Promote a forward-looking, partnership-based audit culture grounded in integrity and innovation.
What you'll bring - 10+ years' experience in internal audit or risk leadership roles, ideally at executive or director level.
- Relevant tertiary qualification and professional certification (e.g., CA, CPA, CIA, CISA or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of IIA IPPF / Global Internal Audit Standards, governance, and enterprise risk management.
- Experience with ISO management systems and risk standards (e.g., ISO 9001:2015, ISO 31000:2018).
- Proven ability to influence senior leaders and Board-level stakeholders with sound judgement and strategic insight.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills, able to turn complex issues into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience in professional services or a multi-entity environment is an advantage.
