Principal Process Engineer - Wastewater to act as a trusted
Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical leader across wastewater treatment and process engineering.In this pivotal role, you will provide high‑level technical leadership to the Wastewater Expertise team and the broader organisation, delivering expert investigation, design, audit and advisory services across the wastewater asset lifecycle. You will play a key role in shaping future treatment strategies, standards and investment decisions while supporting safe, reliable and innovative outcomes for our customers and communities.
About the Person You are an experienced wastewater process engineer with deep technical expertise and a reputation as a trusted subject matter expert. You apply sound engineering judgement to deliver safe, robust and innovative treatment solutions across complex assets.You collaborate effectively across disciplines, provide technical leadership, and actively contribute to building capability within teams. Safety, professionalism and a commitment to service excellence are central to how you work.
Additional responsibilities include: - Provide technical leadership and expertise as a recognised SME in wastewater treatment, recycled water, biosolids and odour management across the organisation.
- Deliver complex wastewater process engineering services, including performance investigations, capacity assessments, design reviews, tender specifications, commissioning and operational optimisation.
- Lead safety‑focused engineering practices, including Safety in Design, HAZOP and Hazardous Area Classification, and actively contribute to industry‑leading WHS performance.
- Develop and maintain technical frameworks, standards and guidelines to ensure compliant, safe, reliable and value‑for‑money outcomes across the asset lifecycle.
- Support strategic planning and future investment, providing process input into capital programs and driving future process strategies for wastewater and recycled water treatment assets.
- Collaborate and build capability across teams, fostering a culture of service excellence, technical rigour and continuous improvement.
Your success in this role will come from: - Tertiary qualification in Engineering with extensive professional experience in wastewater process engineering.
- Deep technical expertise in wastewater, recycled water, biosolids and odour management, with the ability to apply this knowledge to complex operational and capital challenges.
- Extensive experience delivering and reviewing investigations, concept, detailed design and optimisation of wastewater and recycled water treatment processes, including auditing consultant designs.
- Proven ability to lead innovative and complex engineering investigations and designs at a senior professional level.
- Strong experience developing, maintaining and applying technical guidelines, standards and specifications for wastewater infrastructure and treatment assets.
- Broad engineering understanding across multiple disciplines relevant to wastewater conveyance, treatment and waste disposal (desirable), with postgraduate qualifications in wastewater or recycled water treatment regarded favourably.
