Our culture is professional but friendly, with an emphasis on quality, integrity and building long-term client relationships.We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our practice team and take responsibility for a portfolio of clients from a range of sectors. You will be involved in year‑end accounts preparation, tax compliance, day‑to‑day support to clients, and reviewing the work of our offshore outsourced accounting team, working closely with senior staff and partners.The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in financial management, accounting software, and financial services. This role involves overseeing complex financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and mentoring junior staff. The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal part in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting strategic decision-making processes within the organisation.
Key responsibilities:- Prepare year‑end statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships in accordance with UK standards.
- Prepare corporation tax computations and returns, as well as self‑assessment tax returns for directors and individuals.
- Complete VAT returns and advise clients on VAT matters and deadlines.
- Review and support bookkeeping, including postings, reconciliations and management reports where required.
- Review work prepared by our offshore outsourced accounting team (including bookkeeping, reconciliations, draft accounts and VAT returns) to ensure accuracy and compliance before final sign‑off.
- Provide clear feedback and guidance to offshore outsourced team members to maintain quality and consistency of output.
- Liaise directly with clients by email, phone and in meetings, providing clear explanations and proactive advice.
- Ensure all filing deadlines (Companies House and HMRC) are met and work is completed to a high technical standard.
Candidate profile Essential:- Part‑qualified or qualified ACA / ACCA (or equivalent), or qualified by strong practice experience.
- Recent experience working in an accountancy practice, managing a portfolio or acting as main client contact on jobs.
- Solid experience preparing year‑end accounts and tax returns for SMEs and owner‑managed businesses.
- Comfortable using cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, good organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload and deadlines.
- Confident communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting and tax matters clearly to clients.
DesirableExperience with personal tax planning or advisory work.Experience reviewing work of junior or outsourced staff.Familiarity with practice management/time‑recording software.
