You’re a leader within Property Engineering, responsible for empowering the engineering team to deliver top quality products that create value for customers, evolving our engineering practices to increase our speed to customer value, and ensuring the long term health of our technical platforms. You help align different functions such as delivery, technical, and people leadership to maximise the value and reduce the friction between streams of work. **Here is what you can expect from this role:** - People Leadership & Growth: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of up to 8 Lead Software Engineers and Engineering Leads, investing quality time in their career growth and technical leadership - Culture & Environment: Champion Trade Me's values to foster a highly productive, diverse, and psychologically safe working environment - Technical Oversight & Strategy: Set the technical direction for a large-scale business domain, aligning your platform roadmap with Trade Me’s overarching engineering vision - Balanced Delivery: Partner with Product and Delivery Managers to establish strong governance, ensuring squads effectively balance new feature velocity with systemic health and tech debt - Engineering Excellence: Ensure delivered products strictly meet Trade Me's high standards for code quality, security, performance, and modern analytics **What you will bring to our team:** - 10+ Years in Engineering: Seasoned practitioner with deep expertise in modern software architecture, technical practices, and engineering excellence - 5+ Years People Leadership: Proven track record leading and scaling medium-to-large technical teams (7+ engineers/leads) - AI-Forward Mindset: Hands-on experience experimenting with AI tools and a natural curiosity to weave them into your everyday product workflow to drive efficiency - Vendor & Partner Management: Experience working with a hybrid of in-house squads and external vendors/partners across multiple time zones - NZ-Based Mobility: Ability to travel within New Zealand occasionally as required - Technical Vision & Architecture: Strong technical background to collaborate with Principal Engineers, formulating high-impact architecture and future-focused technical roadmaps - Strategic Alignment: Translates company vision into a clear technical roadmap, driving results while balancing commercial acumen - Elite Coaching & Communication: Exceptional communicator and influencer who gains the trust of cross-functional peers and senior leadership while mentoring engineering leads - Inspiring Culture Builder: High-energy, values-led leader who creates high-performing, autonomous teams and injects optimism into the workplace **You'll have the best time working at Trade Me, and this is why:** **#AI and Tech:** We live and breathe AI in our daily tasks.
