Full Professor (W3)
in Geometry and Probability for High
Dimensions
at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer
Science and Natural Sciences
We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of
geometry and probability for high dimensions, to be filled as soon as pos-
sible. The research focus of the professorship is on aspects of high di-
mensionality using geometric and probabilistic methods, with applica-
tions in, e.g., data science, machine learning or quantum computing.
Proven expertise in areas such as high-dimensional geometry, asymp-
totic geometric analysis, concentration inequalities, information geometry
and/or high-dimensional probability theory/statistics is expected. Excel-
lent applications with different, but relevant research profiles with focus
on high dimensionality are also welcome. Expected is also a successful
track record of acquisition of third-party funding.
In the area of teaching the professorship will contribute to the teaching
obligations of the mathematics department, which include the training of
mathematics students and courses for other groups at RWTH Aachen
University. Concretely, the professorship will be involved in the
management and execution of the new Bachelor/Master program Teach-
ing for Elementary Schools. The teaching activities of the professorship in
this area are restricted to mathematics training.
The requirements include a doctoral degree and additional research ex-
perience, such as a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) or
equivalent achievements gained as a university researcher or professor or
in a research position outside academia. Teaching ability and dedication
are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent Ger-
man is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will
be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.
