Automation and Controls Engineer to join our manufacturing operations in Decatur, IL. This is a senior-level role supporting facility modifications, equipment installation, and automation system development.The successful candidate will take ownership of
PLC/HMI programming,
SCADA upgrades, and
automation projects in a regulated (GMP-compliant) environment. You will work closely with cross-functional departments to improve automation performance, reliability, and compliance in critical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve automated electromechanical and software systems
- Lead or support installation of new facility and production equipment
- Program and configure PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and vision systems
- Conduct maintenance and upgrades for Allen-Bradley-based controls systems (Siemens/B&R experience is a plus)
- Ensure systems meet 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5, and CSV standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance automated data collection, reporting, and controls reliability
- Assist in QMS (Quality Management System) activities related to change control, investigations, and SOPs
- Support validation team in qualifying process and utility equipment
- Use work order and calibration software systems for proper maintenance documentation
- Complete timely, accurate, and compliant GMP records and reports
- May require occasional overtime, shift work, or availability via phone/radio
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in industrial/process automation engineering
- Strong experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (required)
- Familiar with 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5, and computerized system validation (CSV)
- Experience qualifying or upgrading SCADA, PLC, and HMI systems
- Understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS) and GMP environments
- Excellent communication and documentation skills in a regulated setting
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Siemens and B&R automation platforms
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing
