Job Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide support and assistance to the National Operations Manager and Site Managers to implement and maintain Safety Management Systems requirements and enable compliance with relevant safety, quality and environment legislation, codes and standards for the plant operations within the framework of established SafeWork's Safety Management System and the requirements of a Major Hazard Facility (MHF).As well as site duties, the role requires that you always maintain flexibility and focus on efficient operational performance and cross functional support.Minimum 1-2 years of experience in Safety Management Systems (SMS) or OHS is required or as Safety Officer/Inspector.Previous Major Hazard Facility (MHF) experience is preferred.Specific safety certifications such as Lead Auditor or Risk Management qualifications are preferred.Manufacturing or industrial operations experience is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities:Carry out routine inspections of equipment, work practices and facilities to confirm compliance with legislative, industry and company requirements. Conduct checks of emergency equipment, ensuring fire extinguishers, spill kits, first aid kits and other safety supplies meet minimum regulatory and operational standards.Perform site-based safety activities such as toolbox talks, induction sessions, and general safety awareness programs to reinforce safe working behaviours.Facilitate safety engagement activities, such as awareness program and staff training to continually strengthen safety awareness and behaviours. Contribute to safety campaigns and training activities, helping organise materials and ensuring attendance is recorded.Support the upkeep of safety documentation, including inspection records, equipment registers, incident reports, and compliance files relevant to site operations. Maintain accurate documentation and records, including SMS-related files, equipment inspection and maintenance logs, procedures, and other compliance documents consistent with the requirements for a Major Hazard Facility.Observe site activities to ensure correct use of protective devices, safe work methods, and proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.Document and maintain records for the Management of Change (MoC) processes, ensuring modifications to plant, equipment, procedures or operations are appropriately assessed, approved and recorded.Plan and execute internal and external audit programs referencing recognised standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and AS 4801, and drive remediation activities arising from audit findings.Conduct incident investigations using structured problem-solving tools to identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and ensure actions are completed within required timeframes. Investigate workplace incidents or non-compliance, gather relevant evidence, and provide advice to management on corrective and preventative strategies that meet legislative requirements.Check in regular basis the site compliance by ensuring required licences, permits and safety equipment inspections are up to date, and flagging any non-conformances.Perform workplace testing and assessments, such as atmospheric testing for hazardous vapours, gas mixtures, and other occupational hazards, ensuring controls remain effective.Prepare routine reports and assist in administrative tasks associated with safety meetings, contractor compliance, and operational communications.Perform additional site duties assigned by the Operations Manager related to day-to-day compliance and workplace safety.
