About Us QuantWare is the world's leading manufacturer of superconducting quantum hardware. As a high growth start-up with a global customer base, our mission is to accelerate the advent of the quantum computer. We push the boundaries of what's possible in our field. We work on making the world’s largest quantum processors, as fast as possible.
At QuantWare, we’re not just producing quantum hardware for the hyperscalers of tomorrow; we’re working on technology that will change the world. To make that ambition a reality, we need exceptional people who drive real impact. That’s where you come in. With our rapid growth and increasing demand for cutting-edge 3D quantum processors, we are seeking a highly experienced and innovative
Hardware Assembly & Reliability Engineer. This pivotal role will be responsible for defining, developing, and optimizing advanced assembly processes and ensuring the long-term reliability of our complex 3D hardware architectures. You will be instrumental in translating novel designs into manufacturable products, pushing the boundaries of precision assembly under extreme conditions, and establishing a robust framework for high-volume, automated production. Your expertise will directly impact the yield, performance, and long-term stability of our quantum computing systems.
What you’ll be doing:- Pioneer Innovative Assembly Techniques: Research, develop, and implement novel and potentially unconventional hardware assembly methods for our complex 3D quantum processors.
- Process Development & Optimization: Define, develop, and refine robust, high-precision assembly processes from prototyping to high-volume production. This includes material selection, bonding techniques, process parameters, and in-line quality controls.
- Cryogenic Reliability Assurance: Develop and execute comprehensive reliability testing and qualification plans specifically for cryogenic environments and multiple thermal cycles (room temperature to millikelvin). Identify, analyze, and mitigate failure mechanisms related to extreme temperature changes.
- Scalability & Automation: Design assembly processes for seamless transition to automated, high-volume manufacturing. Evaluate and implement automation solutions, robotic integration, and advanced metrology for production scaling.
- Signal Integrity Considerations: Work closely with RF/Microwave engineers to ensure assembly processes and material choices maintain excellent signal integrity for sensitive qubit control and readout signals.
- Team Leadership/Mentorship: Potentially guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians in assembly techniques and reliability principles.
Your profile You don’t need to tick every box, but if most of these apply, we’d love to hear from you:
- You hold a Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
- You bring over 7 years of industry experience in hardware development, advanced packaging, assembly process engineering, and product reliability. Your background ideally includes working in environments demanding extreme precision and robustness, such as:
- Cryogenic Applications: You have hands-on experience with low-temperature materials, thermal cycling, and assembly techniques for quantum computers, cryo-electronics, or similar cutting-edge technologies.
- Space Industry: You're familiar with thermal vacuum testing, radiation-hardened electronics, and ensuring long-term reliability in harsh space environments.
- You possess deep knowledge of advanced packaging technologies, including 3D IC integration, flip-chip, wafer-level packaging, micro-bumping, and/or direct bonding.
- You have a strong understanding of materials science principles, particularly as they relate to thermal management, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) mismatch, and material degradation at extreme temperatures.
- You have proven experience in reliability testing and a solid grasp of its standard protocols.
- You're familiar with automation concepts and principles relevant to high-volume manufacturing.
- You have demonstrated experience in advanced 3D design of complex and large-scale assemblies.
