Senior Horticulturist/Gardener

It is located close to the towns of Bathurst and Oberon in the NSW Central Tablelands.At 65-hectares Mayfield is the largest cool climate garden in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the most prestigious horticultural destinations in Australia.We are seeking an experienced senior horticulturist with leadership skills to play a significant role and join our passionate team of gardeners. You will be responsible for a section of our garden that includes our Herbaceous Border, Kitchen Garden, Japanese Garden and Front of House Garden.We are looking for a person with great work ethic and attention to detail. Qualifications and Experience

• Qualifications in a horticulture trade certificate or 5 years’ experience in Horticulture or an associated industry.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, maximise productivity and problem solve. Essentially, we are after a strong and effective manager.
• Demonstrated garden maintenance experience in an estate, municipal, commercial, or golf environment.
• Commitment and enthusiasm to ongoing learning in horticulture, science, work practices, training programs, equipment and technology.
• Valid driver's licence.

Core Responsibilities

• Play a leading role in the garden team responsible for a section of the garden that includes the Herbaceous Border, Kitchen Garden, Japanese Garden and Front of House Garden. Moving forward you will also get the opportunity to work across other areas of the garden.
• Ensure all routine garden maintenance tasks, planting and projects are completed in line with agreed targets.
• Undertake management of materials, machinery, tools and area.
• Supervise apprentices, labourers and tradespersons.

Terms and Benefits

• Full-time position - five days, 38 hours per week.
• Remuneration commensurate with experience and qualifications.
• Short-term settling accommodation is available to a candidate who wishes to move and settle in the Oberon region.
