Job Description:
We are looking for a hard-working Baker and Pastry Assistant to join oursmall and busy team at Bacca Bakery in Takaka. We will be passing on a lot of knowledge in regards to sourdough breads and pastries and are therefore looking for someone to commit long-term (min 24 months).This is a permanent full-time position with the pay ranging between $23.50 to $30.00 per hour depending on the level of experience. You will have a NZQF Level 4 qualification or at least 3 years relevant experience in baking or a related field, which can substitute for the formal qualification.You will be required to work Tuesday to Saturday with a 6am start. You will work a minimum of 30 hours per week. What we are looking for:Applicants for this position have to be be NZ residents or have a valid NZ work visa and will ideally have a stable base in Golden Bay. A good understanding of the English language and basic maths is essential. Having your own transport to and from work is a must.A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to learn and adapt is welcomed. You must be able to communicate well, take instructions and feedback and implement these.
Being able to work as part of a team but also self guided as an individual is a skill we value. Previous experience with artisanal baking, stoneground flours and pastry is a bonus.You should be physically fit for lifting heavy doughs and flour sacks and tasks that requires physical strength. You should be able to work well in a fast-paced environment and have strong multitasking and organizational skills Tasks include but are not limited to:
  • follow recipes, change ingredients and adapt mixtures seasonally when needed
  • checking the quality of raw materials, weigh, mix and measure ingredients
  • inspecting, cleaning and milling raw grain
  • planning dough sizes, product numbers and baking schedule
  • kneading, cutting, moulding, mixing and shaping dough and pastry goods either manually or using a machine
  • monitoring oven temperature and product appearance to determine baking times
  • coordinating the shaping, proofing, loading, baking, unloading, de-panning and cooling of various breads and rolls
  • prepare items for sale, including glazing buns and filling pastries
  • preparing pastry fillings and assisting the pastry chef
  • emptying, cleaning and greasing baking trays, tins and other cooking equipment
  • checking the cleanliness of equipment and operation of premises before production runs
  • prepare customer orders and serve customers
  • may be required to provide backup to other employees
  • cleaning of food preparation surfaces, premises and equipment
