Job Description ING is one of the largest financial institutions in the Netherlands, currently undergoing a significant transformation of its IT landscape within the Domestic Bank division. Within the Customer Domain, a major initiative is underway to modernize legacy systems into a future-proof target architecture. A critical area in this transformation is the Roles & Mandates domain — responsible for managing all customer authorization structures and external integrations (e.g. with the Chamber of Commerce).
Role Summary
As Domain Architect for Roles & Mandates, you will take full architectural ownership of the application landscape within this domain. You will be responsible for translating business goals and regulatory needs into sustainable, scalable, and secure IT architecture designs. The current landscape includes both legacy components and evolving target-state applications, which will require a phased transformation approach over the coming years.
This role is highly strategic and technical, requiring someone who can operate independently from day one. You’ll work closely with solution architects, engineers, business stakeholders, and other domain architects across ING — both in the Netherlands and internationally — to drive architectural alignment and delivery.
Key Responsibilities

• Own the domain architecture for the Roles & Mandates landscape within the Customer domain.
• Define reference architectures and transition plans to guide delivery teams from legacy to target.
• Provide architectural leadership to solution architects and engineering teams, ensuring execution aligns with architectural guidelines.
• Register and manage technical debt where deviations from target architecture occur.
• Collaborate across domains and teams to ensure architectural consistency and business alignment.
• Balance non-functional requirements (security, availability, compliance) with business and delivery needs.
• Contribute to the broader Center of Expertise Architects community within ING Netherlands.

• 12 months contract with the possibility of extension, aiming for internal employment at ING after 18 months.
• A 36 or 40 hour workweek with flexible hours and a hybrid working model (office and home-based).
• Salary range: €5.996 - €9.583 gross per month (based on 36 hours per week, excluding holiday pay, based on experience).
