The Drilling & Wells Agentic AI Project Manager is responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams in the design, development, and deployment of advanced Agentic AI modules to support oil and gas well lifecycle activities, including well planning, drilling operations analysis, and plugging and abandonment (P&A).This role combines technical leadership, project management, and domain expertise to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and scalable AI-driven engineering solutions aligned with organisational objectives.
Key Accountabilities: Project & Technical Leadership - Plan, direct, and coordinate technical activities relating to AI-driven drilling and well engineering solutions.
- Lead and manage teams of AI specialists, data scientists, and drilling engineers.
- Establish project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of AI platforms and engineering workflows.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Liaise with senior management to align project outcomes with business strategy.

AI & Data Science Delivery_
- Lead the development of Agentic AI systems capable of performing engineering workflows.
- Define architecture for AI agents supporting: Well planning optimisation, Drilling operations analysis, Plugging and abandonment planning.
- Oversee ongoing maintenance and optimisation of AI systems and engineering systems/workflows to ensure ongoing efficiency & performance.
- Oversee model development, validation, and deployment (ML, LLMs, hybrid physics-AI models).
- Drive adoption of MLOps, data governance, and scalable AI infrastructure.

Oil & Gas Engineering Integration_
- Integrate drilling engineering expertise into AI models and workflows.
- Interpret engineering plans, well designs, and technical specifications to guide AI model development and operational decisions.
- Ensure AI outputs are technically sound and operationally applicable.
- Collaborate with drilling engineers to encode domain knowledge into AI systems.
- Support decision-making for well design, hazard mitigation, and operational efficiency.
Stakeholder & Delivery Management - Manage cross-functional collaboration between engineering, data science, and operations teams.
- Liaise with commercial, product, and business development teams regarding engineering aspects of solutions and deployments.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders and executives.
- Monitor project performance, risks, and deliverables.
- Ensure alignment with regulatory and environmental requirements.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement_
- Identify opportunities for automation and optimisation using AI.
- Stay current with advancements in Agentic AI, machine learning, and energy sector technologies.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows and AI capabilities.
Selection Criteria Required - Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
- Extensive experience in oil and gas drilling engineering.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Strong expertise in AI/ML, including LLMs and agent-based systems.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex technical or engineering projects.
- Must have work rights for Australia.
Desirable - Postgraduate qualifications (Master’s/PhD).
- Experience with well planning and P&A operations.
- Knowledge of MLOps and cloud-based AI platforms.
- Experience in digital transformation within energy sector.
