Job Title: Senior Cisco Network Engineer (Edge)

Location: Nebraska Medicine (University of Nebraska Medical), Omaha, Nebraska

(ability to be onsite for kick-off would be ideal but remote is acceptable)

Position Overview:

UNMC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Cisco Network Engineer to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting and modernizing our critical edge network environment. The successful candidate will possess deep Cisco expertise and strong architectural judgment, enabling them to guide strategic network improvements within a healthcare setting. This position has a significant focus on hands-on work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Modernization: Lead efforts to replace and stabilize a frail edge network built on Cisco ASRs
  • Infrastructure Refresh: Spearhead a major infrastructure upgrade from legacy ASR 9606 platforms to the new Cisco 8570-G2, ensuring a seamless transition and improved network performance.
  • Strategic Guidance: Provide expert architectural judgment and strategic guidance to simplify the existing network environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a highly experienced network expert to achieve network stability and modernization goals.
  • BGP Routing: Demonstrate strong experience with BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) routing, supporting an Edge Network (Internet2) environment with a 1.5M-route routing table across a dual data center architecture. Qualifications:
  • Cisco Expertise: CCIE-level expertise in Cisco networking, with a proven track record of successful network architecture and engineering.
  • Technical Skills: Extensive experience with Cisco ASRs and BGP routing protocols.
  • Healthcare Environment: Ability to guide strategic network improvements in a healthcare setting.
  • Consultative Approach: Strong consultative and architectural skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with network experts.
  • Hands-On Experience: Willingness and capability to engage in hands-on network engineering tasks.

Certain states and localities require employers to post a reasonable estimate of salary range. A reasonable estimate of the current pay range for this position is $85.00 to $95.00 hourly. Actual pay will be based on a variety of factors, including shift, location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs, and will be set by your employer. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in base pay.
