Job Description:

About the role Gastroenterologists provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management across a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. You'll work across inpatient and outpatient settings, supported by experienced teams, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests in areas such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hepatology, or advanced therapeutic endoscopy, while contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives. Opportunities across Health New Zealand Clinical work for Gastroenterologists includes:
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS)
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) management
  • Hepatology services including fibroscan and elastography
  • Bowel cancer screening programmes
  • Acute inpatient gastroenterology
  • General outpatient clinics

  • The average salary package for Psychiatrists in New Zealand is NZ $343,500.

What you need to work here To practise as a Gastroenterologist in New Zealand, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate. You will typically require an overseas qualification comparable to Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent and meet MCNZ requirements for vocational registration. International Gastroenterologists with approved qualifications from Australia, the UK, the USA, Canada, or some European countries may be eligible for streamlined or fast-track registration, allowing you to start working in Aotearoa sooner.
